Free English Lessons at Aylward School

In 2018 we asked parents and carers to take part in a survey in order to establish areas that the school can assist families in improving parental engagement in learning. The survey results show that adult learning is a priority for parents. We will therefore continue to run workshops for parents and carers this year which are available to everyone; details of these are published in our fortnightly newsletter which is sent home with children and can also be found on the school’s website.

Stanmore College have run a free course at Aylward since September 2018; English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For Aylward parents/carers who have little knowledge of English and are unemployed or work less than 16 hours and have been an EU citizen for 5 years or more
  • 3 Modules (Speaking & Listening, Reading & Writing)
  • Leads to an ESB (English Speaking Board) Qualification
  • Every Tuesday & Thursday at Aylward from 1pm to 3pm (Beginners)
  • Every Monday & Wednesday at Aylward from 1pm to 3pm (Advanced)
  • Learners must commit to attend all sessions
  • Basic computer literacy is required
  • A minimum of 12 participants is needed for the course to run
  • There is NO CHARGE for this course
  • There are no childcare facilities available whilst parents attend the classes

If you know of other parents of children at Aylward that might be interested in enrolling for this course, please may we ask you to discuss it with them. We want to reach those that would welcome the opportunity as we do not want families missing out because they have not understood (due to language barriers for instance).
