OUR SPECIAL VISITORS FROM CHINA
This week, we have been host to 35 children from China. The children are visiting from the Hunan Changsha Tianhua Boarding School in Hunan, near Guangzhou City in the south of China. The school has 2,200 pupils and almost 300 staff. This is the first time these children have ever visited England and whilst their own teachers have been showing them the great city of London, our Year 4 and Year 5 children and staff have been showing them how we learn in an English school. They have experienced English, Maths, Art and P.E lessons, to name a few, and have enjoyed playing with our children during breaks. We are very proud of our children who have been buddies to our visitors, ensuring that they feel welcome and happy. They have enjoyed lunch time chats and have experienced learning Chinese folk songs and writing using a soft brush and ink. We have all thoroughly enjoyed this visit.
It has been valuable learning for all of the children and staff.
YEAR 2 CRAFT SALE FOR RNLI - JULY 2018
On Tuesday 17th July, the Year 2 children raised £59.30 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute by creating and selling photo-frame magnets and iced biscuits. The money will be donated to the volunteer lifeboat crews that are crucial to ensuring our coastlines are safe places for us to enjoy.
Thank you to all the children for their efforts in making the crafts and to the parents for their support.
INTERNATIONAL DAY - JULY 2018
What a fine ending to the week! It was great to see the children (and many staff) in their traditional costumes and colours today. The children visited different classrooms and learnt more about the culture and lifestyle of England, New Zealand, Brazil, China, Mexico, Tanzania and France. The smell of food from all over the world was
mouth-watering; we would like to thank parents and carers who kindly contributed and helped to make it so special.
BUDDHISM WORKSHOP - YEARS 4 & 5
We were fortunate that Srivati from the Bodhi Tree Foundation came to give an RE workshop about Buddhism this week to Years 4 and 5. Srivati explained the principles and concepts of the Buddhist faith and talked about different Buddhists, and how they practice their faith today. A key element of the session was the 'Three Minute Breathing Space', a mindfulness meditation where we pay attention primarily to our body and our breathing. During this non faith based meditation session the children learnt to focus completely and shut out everything going on around them. It was a very thoughtful and calming experience and everyone who took part enjoyed it very much and felt it was helpful. Perhaps we can learn to incorporate this in our daily routine.
ART GALLERY - June 2018
It was good to see so many parents joining us to view the children’s art work.
The standard of work was high. Thank you to parents and carers for generously donating £183 towards Art Resources.
KS1 Sports Festival
Aylward were invited to take part in a KS1 mini festival at Bannisters, along with 19 other schools.
Our children worked and tried so hard and came in 6th place! The children represented Aylward well and showed full commitment in all the sports activities. It should be noted that the four Year 6 Sports Leaders were extremely impressive as they led an activity for all the schools involved.
