Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve

A

MATHS

At Aylward Primary School, we want every child to achieve their potential by offering a sequential, structured, challenging and enjoyable Maths’ curriculum. Our children are taught number, shape and space, measurement and data handling. They develop great fluency and confidence using manipulatives to enhance their understanding. Alongside this, they will apply their mathematical knowledge to a variety of problems and real-life situations as they work towards achieving mastery.

The school follows the Rising Stars sequence of work for Maths. It is used as a starting point and then adapted to suit the cohorts' requirements and to make cross-curricular links. The scheme of work repeats throughout the school year to allow children to revisit and build upon previously learned skills and to develop new ones. The four strands they learn through are: number sense, additive reasoning, multiplicative reasoning and geometric reasoning.
