Phonics and Reading at Aylward
At Aylward Primary school we currently use Letters and Sounds to teach phonics. Teachers also use the resource Phonics Play to help assist their phonic lessons. In Key Stage One, phonics is taught on a daily basis and intervention phonic groups are set up in lower Key Stage Two to support those who need extra help in their reading and writing. From January 2017, we will be following the Read Write Inc programme.
Children at Aylward are exposed to reading on a daily basis. From Key Stage One upwards, children receive guided reading daily with weekly comprehension tasks to check children’s understanding. Teachers use good quality texts as part of their English lessons and in addition to this, on a weekly basis children select a book from the school library. If you would like to know ways of supporting your child with their reading at home please download the booklet below.
