At Aylward Primary School, we believe that music is an important part of a broad and enriching education. We provide pupils with opportunities to develop their musical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music through both curriculum learning and instrumental tuition.

Pupils in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument through small-group tuition provided by teachers from the Harrow Music Service. A range of instruments is available, including violin, flute, guitar, piano and trumpet, subject to sufficient numbers and availability.

We also offer opportunities for our younger pupils in Years 1 and 2 to take part in small-group music tuition through Rock Steady Music, giving children an opportunity to develop their musical interests from an early age.

Instrumental tuition is designed to encourage children to develop their practical musical skills and gives them the opportunity to practise and perform as they progress. Where appropriate, instruments such as violins, flutes and trumpets may be available to hire from the school for the first year, helping pupils to get started. Guitar and piano pupils require access to an appropriate instrument for practice at home.

Through our music provision, we aim to ensure that pupils have the opportunity to discover a love of music, develop their talents and experience the enjoyment and confidence that comes from learning to play an instrument.
