Pastoral Support – The Nest
At Aylward Primary School, we recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, happy and emotionally supported. The Nest is our dedicated pastoral space, providing a calm and nurturing environment where pupils can access additional support for their social and emotional wellbeing.
Our Learning Mentor, Ms Moore, works with children individually and in small groups to help them develop confidence, emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships. Support is tailored to each child and may include emotional check-ins, regulation activities, friendship and social skills work, self-esteem and confidence building, support with worries or changes at home or school, and help with managing emotions and resolving difficulties.
The Nest provides children with a trusted adult and a safe space where they can talk, reflect and develop strategies that support their wellbeing both in and outside the classroom. Ms Moore works closely with class teachers, the Inclusion Team and families to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time, helping every pupil to feel valued, included and ready to learn.
